On Moonless Nights

there is an ugly thing

that lives in dark shadowed spaces

and sometimes

with the dark of the moon

it leaves its hiding place

to catch you unaware

and drag you to its dreadful lair

where it feeds upon your flesh

in the unknown reaches

of    your    mind
